Bradford City Director Badges

Bradford City Director Badges

Bradford City was formed in 1903 evolving from Manningham FC that was originally established as a rugby union club in 1880. A leading figure in Bradford, Alfred Ayrton orchestrated the historic switch in codes from rugby to association football. Alfred was President of Bradford City from 1903 until 1907, prior to the club being registered as a Limited Liability Company in 1908. The Presidents badge below belonged to Alfred Ayrton and was subsequently given to a family friend by the Ayrton family. That person auctioned the badge at a local auction house and I was lucky enough to buy it. It is a generic President badge from that era, but comes with provenance.

Moving forward to 2013, I provided Bradford City with Director badges for 4 consecutive seasons. The badges were split into 3 categories. The gold badges were worn by the owners of Bradford City, the silver badges by the C.E.O. and any other Directors, whilst the antique bronze badges were worn by Associate Directors, until those positions were abolished by the new owners.
